How does a vision board work? Why do we make a vision board?
Our logical mind always wants to know how and why. Have you noticed that sometimes knowing the answer does not satisfy our conscious mind? It’s a bottom less pit and there is always another question.
A while ago I went to a daylong workshop with Adyashanti and I had a burning questions about me and my life. He always leaves time for questions at the end of his talk and I could hardly wait for my turn. After listening to the people who were ahead of me, he brought up that it does not really matter to the rational mind, to get the question answered. The job of the rational mind is to ask why and it will continue to ask and to ask and to ask…… so I had some kind of a flash of enlightenment and did not need to ask the question anymore.
But now getting back to the question and the subject of this post: How does a vision board work?
Martha Beck has this very simple explanation to
“Why do we make Vision boards”:
“When you put your attention on something, you experience more of it. Maybe it is created by a magical force of attention. At the very least, you are going to selectively pay attention to these things you like once you selectively start to gear yourself to focus on them more.” A vision board is a great tool to help with this.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collage with images, words and affirmations representing your dreams, goals and desires. It’s an effective tool to find out what you love to have, be or do and to focus on it. It’s not a logical process it’s your subconscious at work. You use a vision board by looking at it as often as you can and the more you feel the desire in your body, the more these things, people and circumstances will be drawn into your life.
How Does a vision board work?
As soon as we put attention onto something, we notice the same thing more often. For example: you want to go to India and all of a sudden you see things relating to India everywhere, advertisements about India pop into your mail, people you know start talking about India, you get emails relating to India.
Now why does that happen? Well you focus on something and your are given more of these experiences. In scientific terms they would explain it with the Reticular Activating System, the part of the brain that filters information and focuses your intention.
All I can say it’s a wonderful process so don’t let your left brain take over, get into the creative zone, do it and see what happens and don’t forget to have fun.
